Take a Break

The holiday season is up and running, and so are you. The hustle and bustle is exciting for a while, but once the adrenaline wears off, it can leave you feeling empty and exhausted. That’s why we’re working on taking a breather every now and then. Here’s how we do it.

Power down at night. Not only are there associated health benefits with turning your phone off when you sleep, it helps your mind relax. If you can tell your brain that work is over and it’s time to rest, you’ll find yourself sleeping better, and thus more productive the next day.

Keeping business hours. In a world of social media notifications and instant gratification, it’s tempting to feel the responsibility to be accessible at all times. But you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to set work aside and be present. That may mean leaving work at the office, taking a weekend hiatus, or simply setting your phone to silent or airplane mode for a few hours. Again, you’ll be a healthier, more productive and effective human if you allow yourself a little bit of time to chill.

Don’t be afraid to say no. Whether it be a (non-required) work function, meetings that could be saved for later, or not taking on that extra project that you know will stress you out, it’s important to say no sometimes. Obviously, there are some things that are required of you, but if you don’t pile your plate so high that you can’t see over it, you’ll thank yourself down the road.

Here, now that you’re reading this blog, take a minute to breathe and let the stress melt away. Give yourself a minute to regroup before getting back to work. You deserve it.
