Beat the Mondays

It can be hard to find motivation on a rainy Monday morning. Deadlines are approaching, every little thing is annoying you, and your breakfast was less than filling. Is there any hope for corporate America on days like today?

Your day will go how your morning goes, so it’s important to get a good start right off the bat.

Planning your meals, outfit and morning schedule the night before helps tremendously. Don’t press snooze on the alarm clock, or else you’ll be dragging. Don’t check your email or phone right away - the world can wait. It’s important to let yourself wake up slowly and focus on you before stepping out the door.

The next step for maintaining a productive day is to single-task. Multitasking often makes you less productive and slows down your progress. Take the time to focus on listening instead of talking. Dividing tasks into intervals and decluttering your desk can also be helpful motivators. Staying away from distractions will help you get more done throughout your day.

On especially rough Mondays, it’s important to treat yourself a little. Take time for yourself in the evening. Leave work at the office, slow down and just enjoy the rest. Giving yourself adequate time to relax now will help you have a productive day tomorrow. If your mind and body are constantly going, eventually you’ll crash, forcing yourself to slow down - better to do it now than when you’re coming up on a deadline at work. Hopefully these tips help you the next time you feel yourself drudging into another day at the office.
